1. Check Uniformity of Nozzle Delivery
Measure all nozzle flow rates at the correct operating pressure by collecting output from each nozzle for 30 seconds. Any nozzles whose output varies by 5% of the mean nozzle output should be replaced.
2. Determine Spray Application Rate
1. Fill the spray tank with water.
2. Set the operating pressure.
3. Catch the discharge from several nozzles for 1 minutes and calculate the average.
4. Drive the sprayer for one minute at the operating speed that is used during spraying and measure distance travelled;
Application rate (L/m2) = Average Nozzle output (L/min) / spacing (m) x distance (m)
3. Changing the Application Rate
Small adjustments in the application rate can be achieved by altering the following;
1. Changing Nozzle Size – The larger the volume the greater the volume delivered.
Check manufacturer nozzle charts.
2. Adjust Ground Speed – The faster the equipment travels the lower the volume of water applied per hectare.
3. Adjust Pump Pressure – The greater the pressure, the greater the volume delivered.
